The best sandals to add to your basket just in time for summer
'Tis the season (almost)

Warmer days are ahead, so while it might not feel like sandal weather right now, the best summer sandals are always a worthwhile investment that can be kept in your wardrobe until the temperatures rise. Luckily, we've scoured the web to bring you the pairs worth investing in for the season, straight from the experts on the Marie Claire fashion team. Interested? Keep scrolling.
What sandals are in style for Summer 2023?
There is a style to suit everyone this season, from the maximalist to the minimalist. The latter will rejoice at the news that the naked sandal is still very much en vogue (look to Gianvito Rossi and Manolo Blahnik for these).
Carrying on from last season, platforms are still a must, and you just have to look at The Row's re-stock of the Ginza sandals, now in multiple colourways, to prove it (I love ATP and STAUD for more affordable versions).
The maximalist amongst you will also love 'ugly' sandals (hello Chanel dad sandals), though they were embellished for this summer with rhinestones and tie-dye prints - Arizona Love, I'm looking at you.
Easy slip-on sandals are a trend we can all get on board with. An extension of last summer's throw-on dress, it's what it says on the tin: a go-with-everything sandal that - while simple - works hard to pull your outfit together. Think paired-back slides or chunky tread-sole sandals.
Feminine heels were everywhere on the catwalk, and this season it's all about pastel shades, pops of colour and fun prints. More is absolutely more.
If you aren't keen on heels, fret not. The last few seasons have cemented the flat shoe as the shoe to live in. From logo slides (hi Chloé and Gucci) and monochrome mules (Proenza Schouler and Bottega Veneta) to barely-there straps (Porte & Paire and Aquazzura), this trend is anything but boring, though the comfort factor is undeniable.

M&S have given the classic flip-flop design an upgrade with this smart leather pair. The contemporary flatform sole features gentle padding for comfort, and the shoe is finished with contrast stitching and a modern square toe.
Styled with a chunky woven crossover and a square-shaped toe, these slides are made of soft leather and feature a light-padded insole for extra comfort.
& Other Stories are also taking it back to the 90s with these squared-toe terry flatform sandals. The slide-on finish makes them super easy to wear.
Chloe sandals are an absolute classic. This style is made from overlapping layers of canvas that are printed with the brand's moniker. They rest on slight heels and have chic square toes. Slip them on with everything.
Stay smart and stylish this summer with Dune's Loupe sandal. Featuring a cut out design with contrast stitching and a low block heel. An open sandal toe and resin sole complete the striking shoe.
The minimalist design of The Strappy Sandal is intentionally understated to create a timeless silhouette. They’re crafted in Italy from supple Italian leather and the barely-there straps elegantly frame the shape of your feet and elongate your legs.
Birkenstocks are always in style, but this pink iteration feels particularly perfect for this summer's Barbiecore trend.
Kendall Jenner was spotted in these sandals at Coachella last week, so you better believe they're about to be one of summer's most coveted footwear options.
Arizona Love sandals are a tried and tested classic, but with the addition of these pearl embellishments, the timeless shoe has been elevated to statement status.
A minimalist wear-everywhere sandal from Hush. These will go with everything you own and given the block heel, will likely also be on the comfier side of things.

Penny grew up in France and studied languages and law at the Sorbonne Nouvelle University in Paris before moving to the UK for her MA in multimedia journalism at Bournemouth University. She moved to the UK permanently and has never looked back (though she does go back regularly to stock up on cheese and wine).
Although she's always loved fashion - she used to create scrapbooks of her favourite trends and looks, including Sienna Miller and Kate Moss' boho phase - her first job was at MoneySavingExpert.com, sourcing the best deals for everything from restaurants to designer sales.
However she quit after two years to follow her true passion, fashion journalism, and after many years of internships and freelance stints at magazines including Red, Cosmopolitan, Stylist and Good Housekeeping, landed her dream job as the Digital Fashion Editor at Marie Claire UK.
Her favourite part of the job is discovering new brands and meeting designers, and travelling the world to attend events and fashion shows. Seeing her first Chanel runway IRL at Paris Fashion Week was a true pinch-me moment.
